July 20, 2012 – USINT hosted a video conference entitled “Regional Networks and Publications,” moderated by Luis Manuel Botello, Senior Program Director of Special Projects at the Washington-based International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), with participation by Mr. Rosenthal Alves, Knight Chair in International Journalism and the UNESCO Chair in Communication in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, and the founding director of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, along with Ms. Katie King, Senior Product Manager, Portal and Partnerships MSN UK.  The event was organized by USINT’s Public Affairs Office and was attended by over 30 Cuban independent journalists and bloggers.

During the conference, the three presenters spoke on a variety of themes related to taking advantage of regional networks, and establishing networks where none exist.  An open discussion followed, during which guests attending the event were able to share their views and pose questions about the topic.

This is the fourth in a series of video conferences about journalism organized by USINT.  These events provide a forum for open, respectful discussion about topics of mutual interest.
