April 11, 2012 – USINT hosted a video conference entitled “Ethics in Journalism,” moderated by Luis Manuel Botello, Senior Program Director of Special Projects at the Washington-based International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), with participation by Dr. Raul Reis, Dean and Professor at the School of Journalism and Communication at Florida International University, and Liza Gross, former Executive Director for the International Women’s Media Foundation. The event was organized by USINT’s Public Affairs Office and was attended by over 25 Cuban independent journalists and bloggers.
During the conference, the three presenters spoke on a variety of themes related to ethics in journalism, including the importance of journalistic standards and principles in society, the effect of digital media on ethical standards, and common ethical dilemmas faced by journalists. An open discussion followed, during which guests attending the event were able to share their views and pose questions about ethics in journalism.
This is the third in a series of video conferences about journalism organized by USINT. These events provide a forum for open, respectful discussion about topics of mutual interest.
