The U.S. Interests Section in Havana celebrated Jazz Appreciation Month
On April 24, the U.S. Interests Section in Havana celebrated Jazz Appreciation Month with a concert and jam session that involved a number of world-famous Cuban jazz musicians.
The event, which was held at the PAO residence, featured styles that ranged from Afro-Cuban jazz to the latest electronically-enhanced sounds. A jazz dance group established in the early 50s and hailing from one of Havana's most vibrant neighborhoods performed
A poster show of American jazz greats from the past proved to be a big hit, especially when individual panels were given away as souvenirs at the end. Participants also received copies of the IIP/Smithsonian music CD "American Roots." The Cuban musicians present graciously signed a copy of this year's Smithsonian JAM poster, earning it a privileged and permanent place on USINT's Public Affairs Section walls.
The Smithsonian Institution subsequently contacted the post and asked for photos of the event to include in its JAM 2009 Annual Report.
