Lincoln Information Resource Center Reopens
Visiting Cuba on behalf of the Carter Center, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter came to the U.S. Interests Section to meet with members of the USINT community. President Carter last visited the island in 2002.

Four students honed their reading, writing and grammar skills during the six-week course, which is offered by the Centro Virtual Massociedad, an online learning initiative co-founded by the Monterrey Technology Institute, the Business Foundation of Mexico (FUNDAMEX, by its Spanish initials) and Microsoft.
On February, 17, 2011, PAS hosted the second UTEP graduation ceremony of the distance learning course offered by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) "Introducción al aprendizaje y estudio en línea"
Six students were presented with certificates of completion at the conclusion of a distance learning course in Civil Society Organizations offered through Massociedad, a Mexican online education portal.
As part of its celebration of Black History Month, USINT hosted a reception to launch an art exhibit by Cuban and American artists, and featuring musical performances by two Cuban groups showcasing music with African influences.
Cuban residents are invited to submit digital images that represent Afro-Cuban art. All images received will be displayed in a Virtual Art Fair running through April 18, 2011, and will be automatically included in an Art Contest to select three Grand Prize winners. Closing date for entries is February 28.

On Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 19 aspiring journalists celebrated their completion of an introductory journalism course with a simple graduation ceremony held at the US Interests Section, Havana. The complimentary course is offered thrice yearly and provides a basic introduction to the key principals of journalism.

USINT Marine Guard Awarded University Scholarship for Outstanding Essay
One of the Marines currently attached to the U.S. Interests Section, Sergeant Michael Kuy, has won a $1500 university scholarship under the VA Mortgage Center.com Military Education Scholarship Program. Sergeant Kuy won the scholarship following the submission of an essay describing how his military experiences have prepared him for his career.
Spirit of Thanksgiving comes to USINT, One Week Early
On November 19, 2009, the entire U.S. Interests Section sat down to a special Thanksgiving lunch prepared for all USINT staff by Americans serving at the mission. For many of those present this was the first time to share in the spirit, and fare, of this most esteemed of American traditions.
