Julio César Pérez highlights the importance of vernacular influences on Havana’s architecture. August 31, 2010.
On Tuesday, August 31, 2010 USINT Public Affairs Officer Gloria Berbena hosted an "Architectural Tertulia" for diplomats, architects and planners, and other friends of USINT. During the event, noted Cuban architect Julio Cesar Perez shared highlights of his proposed "Master Plan for Havana in the 21st Century".
The Master Plan was authored by Julio Cesar Perez in collaboration with other Cuban architects, and has been registered with the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The Plan, described as a ‘labor of love' by the author, considers the port and seafront of Havana and offers recommendations for increased public space and green areas, a new public transport system, continuation of the existing polycentric nature of the city and the revitalization of the port areas. The Plan has been presented at Havana's annual Charrette, an international workshop attended by architects and planners from around the world including the United States.
