USINT announces winners of photo contest “Postcards from Home”

A panel of expert judges gathered to choose the three Grand Prize Winners from a field of ten finalists who had been selected via public voting by the USINT facebook community. 

Giselle Gonzales Alpizar took the First Prize for her image, ‘Ayer y hoy'.  The second prize was awarded to Sandra Herrera Petrova for ‘La Maravilla', and the third prize went to Esnel González Ávila for ‘Mi Hogar'.

The judges also chose two images for Honorable Mentions:  ‘Cuba: naturaleza muerta' by Héctor Colina Ortega and ‘Hacia todas partes voy' by Liuba Moreno.  The other finalists were Elvis Morales Fernández, Arquimedes Miguel Gonzalez Vera, Yulean Beracierto Santaella and Carlos Manuel Labori Romero.

 The contest was launched on December 3, and ran through December 17.  Contestants were invited to submit up to two images together with a description of why the image represents "home".  Over 31 individuals participated, and a total of 55 images were received.  The first stage of judging involved USINT's facebook community in the selection of the ten finalists via public voting.  A panel of judges selected the Grand Prize winners from the field of ten finalists. 

The winning images, together with the images selected as finalists, will be on display at USINT from February 1-18, 2011.
