President Carter Visits USINT, Meets USINT Community
March 28, 2011
Against a backdrop of sunny skies and inimitable views of the Havana Malecon, former U.S. President James E. Carter addressed the USINT community and spent time meeting their families. His wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, accompanied him on the visit.
President Carter and his wife are in Cuba on behalf of the Carter Center, a not-for-profit humanitarian organization committed to improving human rights. The Carter Center was founded in 1982 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The Center has helped to improve life for people in more than 70 countries by resolving conflicts; advancing democracy and human rights; preventing diseases; improving mental health care; and teaching farmers to increase crop production.
President Carter has a long and prestigious track record addressing human rights and other issues around the world, both during his term in office as President of the United States of America and in his current capacity as founder of the Carter Center. This is the third visit to Cuba by President Carter; his last visit to Cuba was in 2002.
