Attention Visa Applicants Traveling for Religious Purposes
Nonimmigrant visa applicants who wish to travel to the United States to participate in religious conferences or perform other short term religious functions should ask a family member or associate in the United States to contact our Visa Information and Appointment Scheduling Service at 1-866-374-1769, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to schedule their appointment. The person calling on behalf of the applicant in Cuba should inform the operator that the applicant is applying for a nonimmigrant visa to travel to the United States to participate in a religious conference or perform short term religious functions.
The Scheduling Service will attempt to accommodate the planned travel schedule. Nonetheless, demand for visa appointments is very high. Applicants should request appointments as early as possible, typically several months in advance of the planned religious activity.
Nonimmigrant visa applicants travelling to the United States to participate in a religious conference or perform other short term religious functions must present the following documentation and fee the day of their appointment:
- Detailed travel itinerary
- Letter from the religious organization in Cuba explaining the applicant's role in the Cuban religious organization
- Letter from the sponsoring organization in the United States explaining the nature of the applicant's trip
- Nonimmigrant visa application DS-160
- (1) recent passport style photograph
- Valid passport
- Nonrefundable fee of $130 convertible pesos
On the day of the interview, all applicants must demonstrate that they are eligible for the visa class requested under the general provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). If favorable, the application undergoes necessary administrative processing that often lasts 90 days. The U.S. Interests Section will adjudicate the visa application upon completion of this administrative process and will inform the applicant by phone of the visa results.
