Services and products
IRC services are free and open for all Cubans, regardless of age, race, sex, religion, political affiliation, nationality, language or social status. These services are: Classes on basic computers skills and new media technologies: IRC staff teaches classes on basic computer skills to new patrons who would like to use our computers but don't have the basic skills to work independently. Furthermore, IRC staff teaches classes on new media technologies (Blogs, Twitter and Facebook) to our more advanced patrons. These classes are only available to the IRC patrons, not to the general public. Reference and Information Searches: The IRC responds to different types of queries and conducts searches in the IRC collection as well as from on-line databases and the Internet, offering "quick reference service" for specific data about the United States such as "contact information" (addresses of institutions, U.S. government agencies or NGOs), simple statistics, and biographical information. Outreach: The IRC proactively provides focused information services and products for specialized audiences. They include lists and full-text of articles and documents our audience has identified as being of interest.
Free Internet Access: There are several computer workstations where people can navigate and research specific topics as well as communicating with the world with the assistance of the IRC technicians. Those interested in using this service must have basic knowledge of computers, Microsoft Word, webmail and Internet Explorer. There are basic rules patrons must respect such as no accessing to pornographic and meeting sites, gambling, commercial transactions, or online buying sites. Boletín del CRI is an information package in Spanish on a monthly specific topic based on information found on the web site of the International Information Program of the US State Department website (IIP Digital), other US GOV sites and international reliable sources.
Loan of materials: Patrons can take home many of the books and magazines available at both the Lincoln Center and Eleanor Roosevelt Center respecting IRCs external loan book policy.
