USINT’s Fourth Annual Warden Conference. November 19, 2010.

On Friday, 19 November, 2010, the US Interests Section in Havana hosted its Annual Warden Conference.  During the event, American Citizen Wardens resident in Cuba were provided with updated information on American Citizen Services and their responsibilities as Wardens.

The Warden Conference was attended by approximately 40 persons, who had the opportunity to meet with officials from USINT and to exchange experiences among themselves.  The Conference was led by Consul General Martha Melzow. At the lunch following the Conference, USINT Chief of Mission Jonathan Farrar formally welcomed all Wardens and recognized their work for American citizens in Cuba.

The warden network is an integral part of  USINT's American Citizen Services, helping to support consular activities and to communicate with the wider American community.  Wardens provide a reliable way to reach American citizens in the event of an emergency or disaster; they also facilitate distribution of routine administrative information such as changes in application procedures or consular opening hours.
