USINT announces winners of photo contest “The Innocence of Childhood”

September 13, 2010 - A panel of expert judges gathered to choose the three Grand Prize Winners from a field of ten finalists who had been selected via public voting by the USINT facebook community. 

Miguel Eduardo Rodríguez Pérez took the First Prize for his image, ‘La Ingenuidad de la Virtud.  The second prize was awarded to Alain López Martínez for ‘Niños de Ciénaga IV', and the third prize went to Marisleidy Chávez Hernández for ‘Indiscreta 1'.

The judges also chose two images for Honorable Mentions.  ‘Sorpresa' by Alfredo Pernas Fernández, one of the ten finalists, and ‘Super' by Yohandry Leyva Prieto.  The other finalists were Arquimedes Miguel Gonzalez Vera, Jorge Rene Gomez Manzano, Yoanse Vigoa González, and Aliomar Janjaque. The contest was launched on August 3, and ran through August 31. The theme of the contest, "The Innocence of Childhood", was chosen to coincide with the "back-to-school period.  Contestants were invited to submit up to five images each to USINT's facebook page.  Over 75 individuals participated, and over 300 images were received.  The first stage of judging involved USINT's facebook community in the selection of the ten finalists via public voting.  A panel of judges, comprising USINT representatives, Cuban photographers and other third country individuals, selected the Grand Prize winners from the field of ten finalists. 

This is the second photography contest hosted by USINT: in 2009, Cubans were invited to submit their images to a contest entitled "What do you like most about your neighborhood?".
